Storynorth Success

The Storynorth Conference ended quietly Sunday evening under the midnight sun on the tranquil shore of Long Lake just outside of Yellowknife.

Holding hands around the circle for the final song, there was reflected in the eyes of all – the warmth of the company of old friends, the gracious embrace of new friendships, the heartfelt vibrations of northern tellers and the peace of knowing that the event had been a solid success.

The Storytellers of Canada – Conteurs du Canada celebrated the end of their 9th Annual Conference on a high note. Delgates from the Atlanic Provinces, Quebec, Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia joined with sixteen northern tellers and workshop leaders for four full days of activities. The communications workshop was a great success and the working groups of the organization moved their tasks forward. The NACC Festival of Stories spun tales over four concerts with tellers of many dimensions from Nunavut, Northwest Territories and Yukon while also be hosting three professional workshops that were fully attended by a good mix of delegates and the public.

The food was mouth watering, the service from the staff of the Explorer Hotel, the Northern Heritage Centre, Northern United Place, the Northern Arts and Cultural Centre, Office Compliments and the NACC Volunteers reflected the warmth of northern hospitality. The Northern Arts and Cultural Centre would like to thank all who made the journey to the shores of Great Slave Lake and to also acknowledge the sponsors, funders and supporters who made the gathering possible. We look forward to the upcoming Conference in Montreal in 2011.

For those interested in Tellers and Telling the Northwest Territories, please feel free to contact us at the Northern Arts and Cultural Centre. TheNACC Festival of Stories and the NACC Storytelling Road Festival will continue next year during the last weekend in May and extending into first week of June. Until then, keep the stories bubbling and know in your heart that a story needs to be told to really be alive.

Keep telling!
